The prediction market assesses a 9.5% probability that Nicolás Maduro will receive a prison sentence of less than 20 years upon conviction in the U.S. for narco-terrorism and drug trafficking charges. Legal and geopolitical complexities significantly reduce the likelihood of a short-term sentence.
Maduro could receive less than 20 years if he negotiates a plea deal with U.S. authorities, leveraging his political influence or intelligence value. Alternatively, a mistrial or acquittal due to evidentiary weaknesses or diplomatic pressure could result in no prison time.
A longer sentence is probable given the severity of charges (narco-terrorism, drug trafficking) and the U.S. government's historical stance on such cases. Diplomatic immunity is unlikely, and political interference may backfire, leading to a harsher penalty.
